Fine Wines from Lake Neusiedl

The Wine Region of Sopron

We cultivate a vineyard of 10.5 acres in western Hungary close to the Austrian border. It is here at the southern tip of Lake Neusiedl that the wine region of Sopron is located. Producing mainly red wine, the Sopron vineyards cover an area of more than 4750 acres between Lake Neusiedl and the Sopron mountains. In this stretch of land, subalpine terrains and the Pannonian Plain come together to create a unique blend. While the foothills of the Alps bring coolness, the lake stores warmth – and blessed with the benefits of this well-balanced climate, the ground willingly submits to cultivation so as to yield a rich harvest. Collaborating with the young Austrian winemaker Franz R. Weninger of Horitschon, we replanted our vineyard with Kékfrankos (Lemberger), the main variety native to this particular region, as well as with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zweigelt, Syrah and a white Hungarian variety which bears the sweet eloquent name Királyleányka, meaning
«Princess».

Organic Production since 2006
Work in the vineyard adheres strictly to the philosophical values and principles our label stands for, first and foremost a sustainable natural approach and anuncompromising commitment to further enhance the exceptional quality of our wines. In 2006 we switched to a biodynamic
cultivation method. This means that the plants in the vineyard are
sprayed with biodynamic tea and treated with baking powder. No insecticides, herbicides, nor any systemic pesticides are used in our production. The crucial basis for a flourishing plant growth is healthy, well-nourished soil. Using our own compost increases the fertility of the soil and strengthens the vines. Working in harmony with the natural rhythms and seasonal cycles stimulates the plants and allows them to take full advantage of their own innate thriving energy. Since 2006 Biokontroll Hungary has been monitoring the biodynamic method of cultivation at our winery.
